Video Transcript for Blue Ox Safety Cables Review BX88197

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Blue Ox 7-foot safety cables. These come as a quantity of two and offer and 10,000lb-per-cable weight rating. Part number is BX88197. These heavy duty safety cables are going to be be perfect solution for replacing old, worn out our even damaged safety cables. We have aircraft grade cable that's going to run through the center. That's what gives us that great 10,000lb-per-cable capacity, and then you'll see a nice rubberized coating over the cable.

That's going to prevent any scratching or abrasion of our tow bar. Got nice, wide hooks, should fit around any type of hitch you might have and any kind of safety chain connection you might have on your tow bar, and you'll see the keepers are going to keep them in place. That's spring loaded there. Where once it's in place, we won't have to worry about it coming off. You see we'll just connect that around our hitch. We like to cross them.

Bring it back, connect it there. You'll see that coiled design. That's going to allow us to extend these out to seven feet in total length, but it's going to coil up to keep it up off the ground so we can run them underneath our tow bar without having to worry about them hanging up or dragging them on the ground. Other side clipped in here. Now, we'll have plenty of room on the top where we can run our electrical coils, our air line or whatever other cables back to the vehicle that we need to without our safety cable interfering, and that's going to complete our look at the Blue Ox 7-foot safety cables with 10,000lb-per-cable weight rating.

Part number is BX88197.

I purchased this as part of a package which included; Hitch and wiring for my 2022 Equinox, Base plate, Tow Bar, brake System and connecting air hose, break away cables, LED tow lights with wiring harness, and a trickle charger to keep the Equinox battery from going dead while I was towing it behind my class A RV.
I had etrailer do the install of all the components on my car and RV. All the workmanship was excellent and done in the amount of time they said it would take. Also because they did not have a video of this equipment being put on this year and model vehicle, I gave them permission to make a video(which added a extra day and a half to the install)and the installation was free. Everything has worked perfectly and I couldn't be happier. Etrailer is my go to for anything towing and also RV parts.

by:

I had damaged my first set of Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables so these were to replace my 1st set. I'm very satisfied with them and the service and support from etrailer

by:

Easier to get hook and spring over shackles. Still a very tight coil, so they can accommodate a long range of distance between truck and toad.

by:

I was well pleased with this product. It was shipped in a timely manner.

by:

works great, easy hook up and unhook

by:

The quality is excellent and I like the 7’ length which allows me to to cross over easier.

by:

Cables have been fantastic and functioned as expected. Still in use today and we've traveled over 18,000 miles.

by:

Trustworth product.

by:

Awesome as always!

by:

Works great, completely satisfied with these!

by:

They work great, but I probably should have ordered the smaller size. They are a little tough to unhook after towing. They fit very snug on the base plate kit for my 1/2 Silverado. Most of the time I need to use a mallet to re-position them before I can remove them. So the problem is on me, not the product.

by:

This is my first order from ETRAILER I was very happy with my salesperson, KatieD. She made sure I was getting the right parts. I bought a Blueox base plate ,safety cables, and wireless tow lights. Katie followed on the order and confirmed the delivery. The lights are on back order , KatieD said she will let me know of the ship date.

by:

Safety cables worked great. Towed my suburban behind our RV to Alaska and back last summer. It was reassuring to know I had cables that would control the suburban should something come disconnected.

by:

On one occasion I forgot to hook one cable and I dragged it a few miles before someone let me know. I ordered replacement cables immediately and had them shipped out to our next destination two days out and continued the trip with our damaged but still functional cable. The replacements arrived the same day I did! I really appreciate the great customer service.

by:

Got the order in 2 working days great service. Best service I have got on line thanks

by:

What a great company !!! I ordered Blue Ox 7' safety cables (10,000 lbs.) and received the cables very quickly via their shipping policy. The cables were priced very well, and I'm pretty happy...all in all, it was great doing business with etrailer and I will be a repeat customer.

by:

No nuts sent with hardware kit, otherwise everything looked good.

by:

Great quality products.

by:

Both the Safety Cables and Dual Hitch Receiver are excellent quality (vary well made). I plan on using the hitch so that I can carry my bikes on the back of the motor home while still towing a car.

by:

This among other items ordered from etrailer.com for my Class A motorhome arrived according to my best expectations. Will certainly be ordering from them again in the future and I look forward to doing so. Thank You to the wonderful folks at trailer.com

by:

I haven't used these cables yet but I'm sure they will be fine. Very heavy-duty.

by:

Great product

by:

Never knew how important safety cables are until they kept my dinghy from becoming completely detached from my motor home at 70 mph!

Thanks etrailer!

by:

These are fine - probably oversized for my Wrangler 4 door tow, the hooks are a bit thick so have to fiddle a bit to get them on to the hooks of my two bar mount, but that is what you get when oversizing. The tension is great, no issues.

by:

My purchase of BX88197 Blue Ox Safety Cables is to replace the first pair I purchased in 2005. I was pleased with the first set and happy to find replacements at etrailer.com. Katherine at etrailer was exceptionally helpful in assisting me and the item was shipped quickly. Etrailer will be my "go to" place when looking for RV items.

  • What Parts Do I Need to Flat-Tow My 2022 Chevy Colorado 4x4 with Adaptive Cruise Control?
For flat-towing your 4x4 2022 Chevy Colorado with adaptive cruise control, you will need a base plate, a tow bar, a tow braking system, safety chains, and vehicle tow wiring. Here's a setup of the following parts you need: - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM37VR - Roadmaster BlackHawk 2 All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar - 2" Hitch # RM-422 - Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 10,000 lbs # BX88197 - Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional...

You will not need to remove the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521448-5 when you explore off-road. You will want to remove the removable arms just to prevent them from getting damaged. The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate kit is heavy duty and it also fits snug against the bumper and rock guard. If you need a tow bar I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # RM-522. I recommend the...

This setup is needed because Blue Ox does not offer a base plate kit for the 2005 Liberty that is compatible with the Rangefinder II tow bar. You will also need a light kit for the Liberty. There are a few things that you need to flat tow your 2021 Chevrolet Equinox. You need a base plate, tow bar, supplemental braking system, wiring kit, and safety cables, then you will have flat towing setup for your vehicle. The base plate that I recommend is the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms, part # RM-523193-5. It is a direct connect towbar, so you will not need a quick-disconnect crossbar, and it is almost invisible when not in use. This base plate pairs...

These base plate will work well with your Alpha tow bar #BX7365. The next step would be to wire the Jeep so that the tail lights work along with those of the tow vehicle. You can use safety cables instead of chains if your trailer is under the weight rating of the cable. The safety cables are made from nylon coated steel.
